How to clean Felt Pool Tables

pool games

It is important to regularly clean your pool table in order to keep it looking new. This will ensure that your pool table is in good condition and allow you to enjoy it. The best way is to use a brush to accomplish this.

Your local billiards supply retailer will have brushes that are specifically made for cleaning felt pool table surfaces. These brushes are gentle for the felt and remove dust as well as lint. If you don’t have the funds to buy a special brush, you can use your regular household one. Be careful, though, because too many firm strokes can damage the surface.

A steam cleaner is another option to clean the pool table's surface. Although steamers are helpful in removing stain from the felt they can also be used to set them. To remove stain, you can use equal amounts of water and vinegar. It is important to let the stain dry thoroughly before using it.

You should not damage your pool table felt. Pool table felt is weaker than regular felt. A typical recreational player should clean their tables no less than once a week. More serious players should clean their tables more frequently.

Once you've removed the stains, the next step is to clean the pockets. It is a good idea that you vacuum the pockets, rails and felt before you get started. To clean them you will need a damp, soft, and a vacuum crevice instrument.

Use a soft, lint-free towel to clean up any stains. Avoid using paper towels. These can trap fibers that could be left on your felt.

You can also buy a spray-on solution, which will do a much better job of removing stains. These products are either available in your local department store, or online. They can be used as a substitute for the products sold in your billiards supply store.

Once you've applied the cleaning solution to the felt, wipe it down with a clean, damp cloth. You should not rub the stain. Light strokes are best to ensure that the felt doesn’t get stretched.

It is important to allow the felt to air out on your pool table for a few minutes. Avoid smoking and drinking near the table. You don't want chalk marks to be left on the surface.

After cleaning the table, the cues can be stored in the cue rack/cue stand. They shouldn't be stored in extreme temperatures or places where moisture could cause them to rot.

Finally, clean the balls. This is a common task, but be careful. Some home-based cleaning products can damage the felt because they are designed to remove stubborn grime. Using a specialized cleaner will also help to protect the felt.
