Steve Davis – The Nugget Snooker Celebrity

Steve Davis was a dominant force in the early days of snooker's popularity as a major TV sport. He was a six-time champion of the world and won many ranking events titles during his career. He is an accomplished and well-respected snooker player. He also plays poker. Davis is also the author of several books that cover his career and his position as director at WPBSA. His roles as a television commentator, director of Cue Zone Into Schools and a director has contributed to his wealth.

At age 17, Steve Davis turned professional. He made his first appearance at a ranking tournament, the Pontin's Open. Tony Meo beat him. Davis won several titles in his first season of professional play, including three B&H Masters at Wembley.

After a slow start to his professional career, Davis regained his status as the world's best snooker player. He won five titles in the world in 1988 and 1989. In 1989, he was the first to win The Triple Crown. He was also among the first players to win both a UK Championship as well as a world championship. He won numerous tournaments throughout the 1980s.

In the 1990s Davis' dominance started to decline and he lost many records to Stephen Hendry. He also lost the World Championship against Jimmy White, which saw his ranking slip to second in the official rankings. In 1997, Davis lost to Ronnie O'Sullivan and was unable to defend the title. This loss led to his slipping out of the top 16 rankings for the first time in many years.


After a slow start to his second season, Davis began to show signs of improvement. He reached both the quarter-finals and finals of the Shanghai Masters and Grand Prix. He was also named as BBC Sports Personality of the Year in 1988. In 2001, he received the OBE (Officer of British Empire) for his services in snooker. He is also an avid poker player and hosts a weekly show on Phoenix FM. He was the 30th person to appear at The Crucible in 2010.

Davis remained at the top the world rankings in the next season. He won numerous ranking event titles and made it to the final of the Welsh Open. He was able to stay in the top 16 for his 50th birthday, which was his greatest achievement. He was also an active participant in the PTC circuit, winning the 2012 PTC Masters. He was the only player to reach three consecutive PTC quarterfinals in a single season.
