Basic Rules of Pool

One of most popular sports worldwide is pool. It can be played at a variety of sizes. You need to be skilled at the game. There are many kinds of pool. However, eight ball pool and continuous pool are the most popular. These games require skill and can either be played solo, in pairs or as a group sport.

The game's objective, however, is to collect all the designated balls. This includes the cue ball, eight-ball and other object balls. Each player is given one of two pockets at the foot of the table. They keep going until they foul or miss. Fouls must be reported to the officials and the ball must be put back on for a fresh shot. A break, hitting the cue ball in an object ball or breaking an unwritten rule, as well as execution of a jump shot, are all possible fouls.

The World Standardized Rules are the official rules of pool. They are used at many international tournaments as well as in the Billiard Council of America. Fouls must be committed when the ball is lost. The opponent's ball must be re-entered and the point will be awarded to the player who has the ball in his pocket.

The goal of eight-ball is to win the black eight ball. Depending upon the game variation, the other balls may be numbered 1-9. The winner of the game is the one who has the ball in his own hand.

A normal foul is penalized with a minus point. If the ball is pocketed in the course of a foul, the ball must be immediately racked. The player can restore the position in which he was before the foul. He may choose to keep his shot, and if his opponent places a ball in his pocket, he will be awarded a point.

Another type is the ball and hand foul. This occurs when a player touches the cue ball without having his or her foot on the floor. Before taking a shot, a player must announce the pocketed ball. The ball that was pocketed during foul play must be positioned as close to the feet spot as possible.

The player who commits two fouls in a row must be warned before taking his or her next shot. The third foul will result is a forfeiture of the game. Example: If the player breaks during the first inning of play, he/she will be awarded a minus point of -10.

Another type of foul is a non-player interference. Non-player interference refers to any foul that occurs when the ball gets pushed or bumped in the face by an opponent, or an unscheduled fixture. Non-player interfere does not apply if the ball has been pocketed in a course or foul.
